Sarah Jessica Parker Says She’s Never Watched “Sex and the City” — and Honestly, She’s Just Not That Into It
Cue Carrie Bradshaw voice: “I couldn’t help but wonder… how do you star in one of the most iconic TV shows ever and never actually watch it?”
Well, Sarah Jessica Parker just spilled the cosmopolitan on that one—and spoiler alert: she’s never binged Sex and the City or its Gen Z-glossy reboot, And Just Like That. Yep, Miss Carrie Bradshaw herself hasn’t watched her own show. At all. Not even a cheeky episode.
In a sit-down with Bruce Bozzi for E! News, the 60-year-old fashion-and-feelings icon dropped the bombshell with her signature cool-girl nonchalance:
“Oh my God, no. I don’t watch it. Never seen it. Never seen Sex and the City, most of them.”
Gasp in Manolos.
Even more? Her kids haven’t watched it either. SJP and husband Matthew Broderick share son James Wilkie (22) and 13-year-old twins Tabitha and Marion, and none of them have made it a family movie night with Carrie and the girls.
“It’s very odd for them to let it into their viewing queue,” she said. And while James tried to keep up with And Just Like That after hitting the premiere, life (read: schoolwork) got in the way.
But Parker isn’t pushing them to hit play anytime soon:
“It’s all available for them someday if they want it. They’ll get no pressure from me.”
And that’s peak chill mom energy. She’d rather be remembered as Mom, not the woman who broke up with Big via post-it.
“Mostly I want them to recall me as their parent,” she said. “Maybe one day they’ll watch it and be comfortable with what they see. I mean, there’s nothing I do that’s terribly shocking… but it’s a very different way of seeing a parent.”
Let’s be honest though: seeing your mom parade around Manhattan in a Dior newspaper dress and talk about her sex life with Samantha Jones? Definitely a different vibe.
Still, don’t get it twisted—SJP has all the love for the show that made her a household name (and a literal shoe).
“We were very lucky. We really loved our jobs,” she reflected. “We’re not looking back now regretful, like ‘Oh, I wish we’d understood what we had.’ And that means everything.”
And while the fans saw glam and girl talk, Sarah saw something deeper:
“Our crew was the meat and potatoes of our day. The streets of New York, our cast, the writers, the directors… it was joyous. And we laughed a lot.”
So no, she won’t be joining you for a nostalgic rewatch of Carrie’s dating disasters or Miranda’s existential career crises. But she’s proud of it—and she lived it.
And really, when you are the moment, do you need to watch it on TV?
